What is a Kamikaze Shot?
- Just three easy ingredients make this kamikaze shot recipe a must-have for any home bar set-up!
- If you’re a seasoned mixologist or just starting to explore co*cktail making, the Kamikaze is a cinch to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser!
- Vivid colors and quick prep make kamikazes the perfect choice for pre-gaming a night out or game night in!
Ingredients and Variations
Super adaptable kamikazes always start with vodka as the primary alcohol, but you can experiment with the other ingredients as long as the ‘sweet-tart’ result is achieved. Be sure the vodka is extra chilled for best results.
Vodka: This is a drink that calls for higher-end, smoother vodka. Flavored vodka like vanilla, whipped cream, or even grapefruit will add extra flavor without extra sweeteners or calories.
Triple Sec: Liqueurs like Blue Curacao and Grand Marnier can be switched out if Triple Sec isn’t available.
Citrus: Sweetened lime juice is the fave, but lemon juice will work in a pinch. Bottled or fresh lime juice can be used in place of sweetened, but you’ll definitely want to add some simple syrup to the shaker or coat the rims in sugar to offset the tart flavor.
Variations: Add some sugar to the rim of the glass or a shot of simple syrup to sweeten the drink and make it a little more mellow.
How to Make Kamikaze Shots
- Add all ingredients to a co*cktail or chilled mason jar and shake vigorously (proportions are in the recipe below.)
- Pour into shot glasses and serve with a wedge of lime.
How To Make A Kamikaze Jello Shot!
- Stir vodka and triple sec into your favorite flavor of Jell-O (lime, strawberry, raspberry) dissolved in water.
- Add sugar, if desired.
- Pour into shot glasses and refrigerate.
- Garnish with sugar and enjoy responsibly!
Tips and Tricks
- Always start with extra cold ingredients and chilled shakers or glasses.
- You can substitute bottled or fresh lime juice in place of the sweetened lime juice. In this case, be sure to add simple syrup to the shaker, or coat the rims in sugar, to help sweeten it up a bit.
- Kamikazes are strong and guests might want to “lighten the load” so let them add their own shot of “extra” vodka – ¾ teaspoon can be added if desired.
- To mellow the shot a little:
- Add sugar to the rim. Do this by adding a little sweetened lime juice to a small bowl or plate and sugar to another. Dip the rim of each shot glass into the lime juice and then dip it into the sugar. Pour and garnish per usual.
- Garnish with rock candy swizzle sticks to sweeten the drink, or a maraschino cherry on a pick. Even sugar-coated gummy bears make super fun garnishes and add to the fun vibe of celebratory kamikazes!
- Add sweetened lime juice as preferred. Or choose to leave it out and allow each person to add to their own shot (the recipe given adds ¾ teaspoon to each shot).
